EDPB launches coordinated enforcement on the role of DPOs

🛡️ The EDPB launched its 2023 Coordinated Enforcement Action, focusing on the critical role of DPOs in ensuring privacy compliance! 👇

Throughout the year, 26 DPAs across Europe will join forces to evaluate DPOs' positions and resources within organisations, according to Art. 37-39 GDPR. This initiative will involve questionnaires, formal investigations, and follow-ups, ultimately leading to a comprehensive report and further targeted actions.

Belgian DPA clarifies “public interest” in vehicle tracking system decision

The Litigation Chamber of the Belgian DPA ruled that the vehicle tracking system was necessary for safeguarding the public interest in preventing fraud and the proper management of public funds. A privacy hero’s final wish: An institute to redirect AI’s future

🏆 Peter Eckersley, a pioneer in privacy-preserving technologies, envisioned an AI future focused on human flourishing. His sudden passing led Deger Turan, a friend and AI entrepreneur, to become the president of AOI and carry on Eckersley's work.

🧪 AOI's mission is to tackle the AI “alignment problem,” which sees AI's rapid evolution with goals that may not align with humanity's wellbeing. AOI aims to redirect AI towards objectives that promote human flourishing and prevent AI from amplifying destructive forces like environmental destruction, exploitation, and rampant nationalism.

🚀 The institute is already working on several projects, including “Talk to the City,” a ChatGPT-like interface designed to survey citizens and advocate for their needs in discussions with policymakers and journalists, and “Mindful Mirror,” a personal interactive journal chatbot.
